Amsterdam 20-03-2004

On Saturday 20 March, again a demonstration against the war in Iraq was held worldwide. In Amsterdam the demonstration gathered at the town center square Dam. While the rain poured on the crowd -washing out every felt marker sign board - a speaker joked that we should have pity with the people demonstrating in Delhi at 40 C’. We may only hope in Delhi made the same remark about Amsterdam, knowing that they would envy us as we envied them. When the rain stopped, the march went through town, with no particular goal other than raising other citizen’s awareness about this subject. The only misbehaving part during this march was the wind, who torn banners out of peoples hands and threw large debris from the roofs.

One can have different views on this event; the demonstration itself, the individuals in the crowd, the groups and the last stretch and afterwards.

Some photo's were taken with a plastic bag over the camera.
