Amsterdam 10 May 2005
Mike Watt & the Secondmen played in the small upper hall Tuesday at the start of the evening. Thick curtains kept the bright daylight out. Later the same evening a mainstream metal band played in the big hall, followed by another concert round in the upper hall. Knowing Mike Watts history from minute men upto the Stooges it was a rare chance to see this show in such intimate ambiance. Mike Watt & the Secondmen tour of Europe “el mar cura todo in Europe too” lasted more than a month. One of the last gigs was in Amsterdam. The music was mixture of warm jazz and noise rock performed by three men: Mike Watt vocals and bass, Raul Morales drums, Paul Roessler vocals and organ. At moments the music sounded innovative weird. At other moments, the music was a nerve tickling an open invitation dance. Dutch audience however has a reputation of being calm beyond cool. The crowed watched and applauded. Because of the tight schedule of stage programming by Paradiso and probably the bands flight to Ireland - their last leg of the tour- the show ended before sunset. Hopefully we can see this band again next year. For more information follow this outside link http://hootpage.com/ Mathilde μP |
