STRIKE ON IRAQ


-BRITSH SUPPORT TO THE US. OFFENSIVE

British Prime Minister John Major commended the U.S. actions in Iraq. The U.K.
gave logistical support to the operation.
Like the American officials, Mr. Major did not rule out further attacks if Saddam
Hussein "continues to brutalize his own population."
Republican candidate Bob Dole quickly reacted in support of the
American President.
Germany and Japan and the Netherlands also supported the American initiative that
was critisized by other nations including Fracnce and Spain.
The Peoples Republic of China expressed concern and acussed the USA of inter
fearing with Iraq's soverienity.
Russia declared that the actions taken by the Clinton administration
against Iraq were unacceptable without prior consultation with Moscow.
Similar reactions were expresed by most Arab nations including U.S.A. allies like
Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Unlike in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 Jordan nor Saudi
Arabia allowed U.S. military forces to operate from their territory.
Nabil El Nijim condenmed the American intervention on behalf of the Arab
League.

The Iranian president accused the U.S.A of trying to destabilize the
entire area.
Turkish Foreign Minister Tansu Ciller expressed concern, Turkish troops
were inmediatly deployed and a security zone was impossed in the Turkish Iraqi border.
