STRIKE ON IRAQ

There are different opinions about the reasons behind this operation.
It is impossible to ignore the fact that the attack took place two
months before the U.S.A. Presidential elections.
President Clinton made some extra points against Republican candidate Bob Dole
Himself a WWII hero, particulary since Mr. is himself what in America is described
a Draft Dodger.
But the Aftermath is an entirely different story. The KDP, the guerrilla
faction supported by Iraq, came out as the absolute victors in this
confrontation with thousands of PUK refugees fleeing into Iran.
Experts insist that Saddam Hussein is the one that has come out in
victory out this entire episode.
On September 19th. CNN reported that American officials recognized that
"Recent events may have strenghtened the Iraqi leader with his Arab neighbours and in the
rest of the world.
Defence Secretary W. Perry and his counter part Secretary of State Warren Christopher
were forced into shuttle diplomacy trying to "mend the cracks with in the 1991 aliance."
On September 16 th. U.S.A. Ambassador to the United Nations Albright appeared
disappointed after the USA long time allied the Great Britain, joined Russia,France and
China in the U.N. Security Council blocking a condemnation resolution
against Iraq.
In the following days, the rethoric calmed down in both sides and the
U.S. reinforcements that were prepared to be deployed in the area
remained in their American basis. Kurdish refugees working with American
releive agencies and the CIA were evacuated to Guam in what the the American media
described as a "New Life" and the entire episode became forgoten history.
