STRIKE ON IRAQ

-Day One.
September the 3rd. 1996.

The United States of America fires 27 cruise missiles against military positions
in southen Iraq on Tuesday morning September the 3rd, local time, in response to
military action by Iraqi forces in the Kurdish controled Northen part of the country.

U.S. officials did not rule out further actions unless Iraqi troops withdraw from
Irbil, a Kurdish city in Northen Iraq.
The U.S. punitive action came after the Iraqi regime gave military
support to the
K.D.P. (Kurdish Democratic Party)
leader Mosaud Barzani in his struggle against the Iranian backed P.U.K. (Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan) in Northen Irak.
