Erzsébet Baerveldt is well acquainted with the lives and deaths of the 16th century Hungarian countess Erzsébet Bathory. In the passed few years name and fysical appearence of the artist intermingled with those of the Countess. In the course of time both biographies become more and more fictional, close to the mytical.
Getting to know her Hungarian counterpart better, Erzsébet Baerveldt did an officially requist at the Hungarian National Museum for a loan of the only known, but secretly hidden painted portret of the Countess. This live-size painting was exhibited in the Historical Museum, together with the dress she had made after a small reproduction of this painting.
During the exhibition the video tape 'Phantomschmerz' was shown in the Prison Gate Museum.
Erzsébet Baerveldt (1968) lives and works in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
