The 7th museum-real thing was a system specific
art project in the center of The Hague, the always relaxed governmental capital of
The Netherlands. This center, formed by a vast but sharp edged court pound, was
also a museum quarter with six prestigious museum institutions for the preservation
of the national cultural heritage. In a way on this spot it became real what Adorno
once said about museums: they were 'the family sepulchers of art'.
Not denying the intention to perform a special kind of attention towards art in
museum, some living artists oppose the representational, institutional and even the
mummifying quality of these places by making a work for and in this environment.
As a kind of unconcerned manoeuvers they infiltrated in the area.
Shown on different places and for a short period of time these art works
formed the 7th Museum. This museum-without-walls stopped in the real site at the
moment that some works were blocked and
banned by the collaborated organizations,
as you can read in the story. The 7th Museumproject will be continued as
the 7th Museum-hyper thing in the World Wide Web.
